Background:
Fiji National University is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Mechanic to join the Estates
& Facilities Division. The role supports the University’s operational efficiency by ensuring the
reliability, safety, and optimal performance of its fleet and mechanical equipment.
The Mechanic will be responsible for carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance on
vehicles and equipment, including diagnostics, repairs, servicing, and maintaining detailed service
records. The position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, ensuring compliance with
roadworthiness and safety standards, and supporting service delivery across the University.
Working within a dynamic and service-oriented environment, the incumbent will contribute to
maintaining fleet availability, managing workshop equipment, and supporting operational demands
through timely and effective mechanical services. This role requires a hands-on, proactive
individual with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple repair
priorities efficiently.
Person Specification:
Essential
- Diploma in Automotive Engineering with at least 3 years of related work experience
Or Trade Certificate/ Certificate IV In Automotive Engineering with 4 years related
experience.
Or applicant with Trade Test 2 & 3 with at least 4 years of experience may also be
considered.
Or applicants with strong industry experience in automotive or mechanical engineering on
heavy and light goods vehicle with more than 7-10 years of relevant experience with at least
secondary or vocational level education may also be considered.
- Driving licence is mandatory.
Desirable
- A PSV licence would be desirable but not mandatory.
Salary: FJD $8.25 per hour gross per annum plus superannuation
