Background Fiji National University, College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences is recruiting a faculty Ophthalmologist to look after the postgraduate training for MMED and PGD Programmes in Ophthalmology. CMNHS SMS is the premier postgraduate training institution for training specialist doctors in the region.
Key Responsibilities: 
The primary role of the incumbent is to teach, research/publish, consult, and provide general administration support to teaching within the section the staff is appointed. Conducts seminars, workshops and visits to appropriate organizations to enhance the delivery of the program. The role of the Assistant Professor will involve planning and teaching programmes of study, assist in programme curricular development, assessing student progress and provide advice and guidance to students, acting as a mentor where necessary to department staff members. Other duties may include assisting with the enrollment of students and the preparation of their personal study programmes amongst others. The incumbent will be required to provide 40% of the time to provision of clinical service in ophthalmology to the Fiji MOHMS.

Person Specification:
Specialist /Clinician: Masters or equivalent qualification with specialist registration
Competent in performing and teaching small incision cataract surgery (SICS).
Competent in managing diabetic retinopathy including the use of anti-VEGF and lasers.
Surgically active currently and must be performing SICS
Practice and teach up-to-date evidence based medicine
Able to supervise students in OPD, operation theatre, laser clinics and outreach clinics. 
Able to supervise research projects for MMED students and willing to assist in ongoing research in Fiji under FNU/PEI
The applicant should be a national of a Pacific Island Country.

Ability to take on administrative duties.
Display academic leadership in teaching and/or in research specialty.
Formal tertiary teaching qualification.
Prior teaching experience.
Research active
Demonstrates evidence of ongoing publications in ranked journals.
Exposure to phacoemulsification and vitreo-retinal surgery.

Salary Base salary of FJ$123,454.13 plus 10% superannuation
