Background
To serve as the lead for all acquisitions operations and bibliographic metadata practices and policies of the Fiji National University. This position prepares the catalogues for the future of bibliographic description, improve in the management and presentation of data, explore new standards in metadata, linked data, the semantic web, and regional and national systems of print repositories. 

Senior Librarian (CD&MS) is to provide leadership for the formulation of policies and procedures related to ordering and receiving of materials for University Libraries ensuring that they follow audit requirements and maximize productivity. Additionally, assist in the management of campus libraries.

 
Key Responsibilities: 
In accordance with International and National standards and best practices, develop and maintain local policies for original cataloguing in all formats and multiple languages.
• Evaluate and make recommendations concerning emerging metadata standards in the library management system.
• Plan, organize and evaluate the LMS workflows (particularly as they relate to cataloguing) to maximize efficiency and responsiveness to the needs of library and users.
• Implement continuous acquisition of e-books/e-journals and printed/non-printed monograph collections with the support of subjective research liaison officers.
• Ensure that all MARC records for all types of information materials are added to the catalogue.
• Manage authority control, including maintaining knowledge of authority control management procedures and create local authority records.
• Conduct research in the vendor/publisher market, developing purchase lists and negotiating with vendors/publishers to acquire the materials/database.
• Meet with sales and consortium representatives to negotiate discounts and work with them to develop appropriate procedures and work with them to resolve complex problems.
• Work with IT, vendors, and the library community to provide homogeneous, direct access to shared metadata and content stores.
• Curate and share complex collections and promote open resources both within the university and the broader community.

 
Person Specification:
Essential:
• Master’s degree in Library Information Science/ Studies/System/Management with minimum of 5 years’ post qualifying experience in higher education Library. 
• Experience working with an Integrated Library Management System 
• Demonstrated professional behavior and excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and problem solve creatively. 
• A familiarity with library technologies such as XML and metadata etc. 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in multiple formats. 

Desirable:
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and presentation skills. 
• Ability to represent the Library effectively as the Library’s ambassador.

Salary Base salary of FJ$43,635.00 plus 10% superannuation
