Background The Centre for Health Information, Policy and Systems Research (CHIPS-R) was established to conduct evidence-based research towards the development of national policies that address sustainable health care financing and equitable health services for Fiji and the region. It works collaboratively with multiple partners and institutions both within the region and globally. It is funded primarily through research grants and project funding.
 
The role of this Research Assistant is to assist the Associate Dean Research, Head of CHIPS-R, Research Fellow and Senior Research Officer with tasks in line with the aims and objectives of the Centre. This will include assistance with proposal development, data collection, literature search, data analysis, results dissemination and report writing.  
The person filling this position reports to, and will be under the supervision of the Associate Dean Research. The position will be part of the CHIPSR Team, based at the Hoodless House. 
Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:

1.Reviews of literature for specific issues

2.Developing research proposals. 

3.Assist in the collection, management and analysis of data, including:
•Pilot-testing
•Maintaining records
•Administering surveys
•Oversight of data collection
•Undertaking semi-structured interviews or facilitating focus groups
•Transcribing/translating interviews
•Entering data onto databases, cleaning data, maintaining datasets
•Undertaking analysis

4.Reporting research findings, including:
•Report writing
•Presentations to stakeholders and at conferences
•Journal articles
•Website 

5.Any other duties assigned by the Associated Dean Research and/or the Dean of the College.

 
Person Specification
Essential:
•  A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion.
•  At least six months of experience undertaking research work in health, including proposal development and assistance with proposals, literature review, data collection and analysis, and support with development of manuscripts for publication.
•  Good knowledge of computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, Internet) including Epi-info or SPSS
•  Good writing and presentations skills
•  Organizational and self-management skills 
•  Knowledge of carrying out literature review

Desirable:
•  Be a team player 
•  Knowledge of research software programs (Epi-Info, SPSS etc.)
•  Demonstrably good character and competence in similar/related field.
•  Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines
•  Excellent communication skills.
•  Ability to think analytically and strategically
Salary Base Salary $22,931.00 plus 10% superannuation.
